TIDF
“Amid a global pandemic that has brought the entire world to a standstill, I wanted to create a formalised body of solidarity amongst designers, this time of a humanitarian crisis deemed fit to carry forward an idea into a union of change. From conversation to concretisation, the process of initiation brought forth the need to bring together some of the most eminent personalities from within the industry in collaboration to transform lives and livelihood within the larger design community - In addition to my participation, founding members and panelists include Shimul Javeri Kadri, Vinita Chaitanya, Tarini Jindal Handa, Pavitra Rajaram, Iram Sultan and Pareina Thapar.
The Fund brings together powerful voices from within the industry committed to support, advocate and collaborate for the transformation of lives, livelihood in design. It raises huge awareness for the post-covid scenario and allows an opportunity to address gaps that exist in the current framework of the design industry - to collaborate for the improvement of life and safety standards and to nurture indigenous design and craftsmanship in the wake of an anti-globalization wave.
To help the backbone of the design industry, The Fund presented its first sale in May, bringing together ‘The Top Design Minds and Practices’ from India through a collaborative online sale in association with ‘Saffronart,’ titled ‘OTLO, curated by Ashiesh Shah.’ From the works of Dashrath Patel to Gunjan Gupta’s ‘Ikkis’ and ‘Design Objects’ from my Atelier, the collection spewed forth hope and solidarity through these times of crisis. The India Design Fund hopes to continue to tackle challenges within the design community, one step at a time and continue to stand as a strong voice for sustainability, improvement of life and safety standards, promoting indigenous craft practices and design in a post-covid world.”
