Channapatna

Channapatana is a city and taluk headquarter in Ramanagara District, Karnataka, India. The city is famous for its wooden toys and lacquerware. Channapatna is also called town of toys ("Gombegala nagara"). The evolved toy craft finds character through an assemblage of carefully crafted, naturally-lacquered beads made in collaboration with Noor Salma, a master craftswoman. Typically made of ivory wood, the process involves ancient tools used to achieve a spectacular degree of accuracy and consistency, not to mention the experience that the craftsmen bring to the table. These handmade objects make their way into several products at the Atelier - allowing the craft to manifest itself into different macro-forms.
