Bastar Iron Craft

Wrought Iron craft from Bastar region in Chhattisgarh originating from the ironsmith communities of Gondi and Maria tribes, involves locally sourced iron scraps being heated and beaten skilfully to achieve the desired shape and thickness. Sourced locally and derived from an iron alloy, wrought iron is malleable, soft and fibrous hence ideal to work with to obtain the required form. 

The craft traditionally practiced by generations celebrates and features figurines of ‘Budha Dev’ or their god along with animals, skillfully crafted in various scales, forms and postures lending it a dramatic flair
